RUGS CARE, MAINTENANCE & CLEANING
All of our rugs are handmade by master weavers in Portugal at Beiriz Atelier since 1919. Using the hand tufting technique with state of the art technologies, that support this artisan production, we create designs and textures that fit perfectly in any interior project. Therefore, they are of high quality and durability.
Consider the following guidance to help extend the lifes of your rug.
MAINTENANCE & WASHING INTRUCTIONS
۰ Vacuum the rug regularly. It is recommended to vacuum at least once a week, preferably a few times, while respecting the direction of the fibers. Use the vacuum cleaner at medium power and avoid heads with teeth or rollers, as they could damage the rug.
۰ Clean spills correctly before they dry.
۰ When necessary, take your rug to a specialist cleaner.
۰ We recommend not taking the rug to the cleaners too often. If it is essential, always ensure it is cleaned by a specialized rug cleaner. Hand tufted rugs are created with a layer of latex to attach the tufts to the base. This layer is hidden beneath the rug’s fabric liner. The chemical solvents used in dry cleaning can spoil the latex, permanently ruining your rug. To enjoy and extend the life of your NIUBÓ rug, we recommend using the services of a specialist cleaner when necessary.
Clean spills promptly following these instructions before they dry. We know accidents can happen, but most stains are easy to remove if you act immediately. It is important to prevent stains from drying out.
On wool areas, use a wet white cotton cloth with a drop of mild soap. Gently tap the stain to absorb it, always working from the outside toward the center.
On silk areas, do not use water or soap initially. Instead, gently tap the stain to absorb it, always working from the outside toward the center. If the stain persists, try using a slightly damp cloth, with as little water as possible.
We recommend testing a small corner before applying any solution to the stain. Always wipe the stain from the outside to the inside to avoid spreading dirt onto clean areas.

RECOMMENDATIONS & OBSERVATIONS
When the rug arrives, allow it to relax. Open the packaging and lay it flat. Marks from being folded are normal and will disappear after a few days. Avoid placing furniture on the rug for at least the first 3 to 5 hours, or ideally, a day. The latex on the back of the rug may have a smell for a few days; this is normal. It’s recommended to allow the rug to breathe and ensure there is as much ventilation as possible in the room.
Bamboo and eucalyptus silk can dislodge lint due to friction when these fibers are cut. We recommend frequent vacuuming to remove these loosened threads, especially during the first few weeks. This is normal and does not affect the quality of the rug. To remove them, vacuum the rug in the direction of the pile as frequently as possible.
As a result of vacuuming, loose threads may appear on some rugs. We advise trimming these threads with scissors or pulling them back with a crochet hook.
We recommend regularly rotating the rug to prevent wear in the same area. Repeated friction at the same point can affect the rug’s structure. Rotating the rug also helps prevent uneven aging from sun exposure, which can cause the colors to lighten over time.
Prolonged exposure to sunlight may cause color changes and bleaching effects in your rug, especially over extended periods of time.
Shading or water effects may appear in cut pile rugs.
Light will fall differently due to movement or the direction of the pile, causing the rug colors to appear more or less strong and bright.
Contrary to some trends, you can keep your rug indoors even during the summer months.
The initial color of your rug may change due to the rug's fibers and the amount of exposure to direct sunlight. There is no absolute guarantee of rug color in any case or situation.
